The Township of Uxbridge is the first municipality in Durham Region to adopt the ‘Dynamic Symbol of Access’...

The symbol is being promoted by Forward Movement, a Canadian advocacy group promoting physical and social inclusion for people of all abilities. The new symbol will be used in all Township owned facilities and accessible parking spots in Municipal parking lots.

The Dynamic Symbol is an improvement to the previous symbol in the following ways:

  • The person in the new image is more defined than the one in the old image.
  • The new image shows movement, a symbolic action that emphasizes differing abilities, and this reframes the way society views and interacts with persons with a disability.
  • The new symbol will promote conversations about accessibility and disability rights in the province; the catalyst for a much needed culture shift on these issues.

The Township will officially paint the first parking spot and change the first sticker as part of National Access awareness week (May 27-June 2).  More details to follow.
