The Township of Uxbridge Accessibility Committee is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony...

2:00 pm on June 15th to open the newly-renovated washrooms in Elgin Park. All are welcome to attend. The Township received a $31,043.00 accessibility grant in 2017 to renovate and make accessibility improvements to the washrooms. The universal design of the enhanced washrooms eliminates many of the barriers that prevent visitors with mobility or other restrictions from fully enjoying Elgin Park.

The new washrooms also increase the safety and dignity of people living with a disability.

The accessible washroom renovation project at Elgin Park completes and compliments previous improvements to make Elgin Park more accessible and barrier free, such as the accessible playground equipment, paved trails and improved parking..

“The Township is committed to providing people of all abilities with the opportunity to participate fully in everyday life. By improving accessibility at our municipal facilities  and providing accessible services, we are meeting the needs of all our residents” stated Mayor Molloy.

Improvements to the facility include new fixtures, a new window to increase natural light and improve airflow and a reconfigured layout to increase washroom space. Accessible improvements include:

  • Relocated doors for safer entry
  • paved path and ramps to the wider doors,
  • grab rails in stalls and beside urinals
  • automatic door openers,
  • Automatic soap dispensers

The project was funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund which supports organizations across Canada to improve accessibility and enable Canadians with disabilities to participate fully in society. Click here to learn more about the Enabling Accessibility Fund.
