This Provincial award recognizes outstanding efforts to end racial discrimination and promote positive social change. There are two student awards and one community award presented annually by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. Each recipient receives a $5,000 cash award and a certificate. The deadline for nomination is May 31 each year.

The award commemorates the legacy of the Honourable Lincoln Alexander who was Ontario's 24th Lieutenant Governor who served from 1985 to 1991. He was the first Black Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the first Black Member of Parliament and the first Black Federal Cabinet Minister.
