Township residents are invited pick up compost, free of charge, at a special event Saturday, May 5, from 8 a.m. to noon (rain or shine) at the Uxbridge Arena and Recreation Centre (291 Brock Street West, Uxbridge). The event is hosted by The Regional Municipality of Durham Works Department, in partnership with the Town of Uxbridge.

Residents are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the local food bank.

The free compost is made using organics collected through curbside Green Bin and Leaf and Yard Waste programs. Residents should bring a shovel and containers to carry compost. Quantities are first-come, first served and a limit of four blue boxes of compost applies per vehicle. Green bins, blue boxes and backyard composters are also available for purchase (cash only), and broken bins can be exchanged for free.
