Private landowners play an important role in protecting and enhancing the health of our local environment. Being a steward of your land presents benefits and opportunities for you and those around you, including:
Improved water quality in the streams and ponds on your property and in your community
A healthier place to live for you and your family
An increased variety of wildlife and habitat
Reduced yard maintenance and increased property value
A sense of well-being about your contribution to the health of the natural environment
There are many organizations offering assistance, both technical and financial, to landowners interested in undertaking conservation projects on their lands. The following is a list of links and events in the Uxbridge area.
The Township of Uxbridge falls under the jurisdiction of several Conservation Authorities. Click here to find out which one serves your property.
Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority
The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) provides leadership in the improvement of water quality, enhancement of wildlife habitat and protection of natural resources within the Lake Simcoe watershed (drainage basin). The LSRCA offers landowners funding and technical assistance for a wide variety of environmental projects designed to protect and enhance the region’s natural heritage.
Please visit http://www.lsrca.on.ca/ for a complete list of landowner funding programs, as well as upcoming events in your area.
At TRCA, we recognize that a healthy watershed is the result of the efforts of all the landowners within it. Through its private land stewardship programs, TRCA works with interested landowners to help them meet their environmental stewardship goals and objectives. Our programs cover a wide range of interests including tree planting and forest management, protecting streams and wetlands, creating wildlife habitat and implementing farm beneficial management practices.
Please visit www.trca.on.ca/landowners for more information about our programs and services.
This project is a partnership between conservation organizations offering services to landowners on the Oak Ridges Moraine. Agencies work together to offer a one-window approach to help landowners access funding and support for stewardship projects.
