Hello Let us introduce ourselves, we are Paula Prong and Franz Henke and together we are ‘Ian Prong . . . Breaking the Silence’, a non-profit organization working to raise money for the Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council.
On September 22nd, 2014 we lost our 18 year old son to suicide. Ian Prong was an incredible young man known by everyone for his beaming smile and his willingness to always be there for others. Ian was a mid-90s student; a person who seemed to have everything. He was loved by so many . . . more than he could ever have imagined. Unfortunately, mental illness and depression cost him his life.
Not a day goes by that we don’t feel guilt about the fact that we were oblivious to Ian’s struggles. We cannot save our son’s life, but we do have an opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of others who share his pain.
We, and so many others committed to the Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council are working towards raising the much needed funds for important suicide prevention initiatives as well as raise awareness of the issues of mental illness, depression and suicide. Please help us make a difference. Please help us eliminate the stigma attached to these issues and start a much-needed dialogue with our young people.
We are asking for your help in promoting the 2nd Annual, Ian Prong . . . Breaking the Silence Blue Jays event. I (Franz) am reaching out to the community of Uxbridge because I grew up here and we are chartering at least one bus, possibly two from there. We are including the event flyer and hope that you will post it on your website and forward it to all of your coaches and managers. You can also view / share our event page within Facebook. This is a kid friendly event and would be a good opportunity for young people to enjoy a day at the Jays game. We are including the link to the WRSPC website so that you can learn more about the important work they are doing. Please contact us with any questions you may have.
Thank you. To Heaven and Back, Paula Prong and Franz Henke
