• Brock Street Culvert Replacement Construction Contract Awarded July 23rd, 2018

Three tenders were submitted from the pre-qualified Contractors on July 11th. Prior to being awarded to the successful bidder, the tenders were thoroughly reviewed by representatives from the engineering firm AECOM and the Township of Uxbridge to ensure they met requirements.

The contract was awarded on Monday, July 23rd at a special meeting of Council. “We were pleased to receive three high-quality tender submissions, and we look forward to working with Brennan Paving and Construction Ltd., a firm that has an excellent reputation and whom we have worked with in the past”, says Chair of Public Works, Fred Bryan.

“This is an exciting day for the Township as it marks the start of the next phase in our construction project. We should see things getting underway soon downtown.” Added Mayor Pat Molloy. “I would like to thank the staff that have worked on this project for several years to bring it to the place we are at today. This is the largest infrastructure project our Township has ever undertaken, and it has been a lot of work getting here.”

Brennan Paving and Construction Ltd. presented the lowest bid of $12,290,553.20 (excluding HST). Total costs for the culvert replacement are estimated to be approximately $17.6 million. This cost includes the environmental assessments, project engineering, detailed design costs, land costs, project management fees, construction costs, utility relocation costs, non-recoverable HST and contingency costs.

The Brock St. culvert replacement project will be funded through a Federal and Provincial grant from the New Building Canada Fund – Small Communities Fund (SCF), a Provincial grant from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF), a contribution from the Region of Durham for their share of the project, the Capital Projects and Brock St. Culvert levy in the Township’s budget, proceeds from the sale of the of the old Fire Hall, development charges collected by the Township and through a debenture issued by the Region of Durham on behalf of the Township.
