• Heritage Workshops at the Uxbridge Historical Centre

Experience hand dyeing from a small flock shepherd who simply adores wool and other natural fibres...

Silvia Stoddart of The Stoddart Family Farm will be at the Uxbridge Historical Centre on Saturday August 11, from 10:00am to 4:00pm, for an Indigo Dyeing Workshop.

Indigo has been used to dye textiles for thousands of years. This deep, beautiful blue colour can be seen in many items today, from jeans to scarves. Silvia will lead participants through the process of dyeing with indigo on both protein and plant fibres and show how a range of colours can be achieved by adding other botanical and natural dyes. This hands-on workshop includes all materials and participants are invited to bring an item of their choice to dye such as a scarf, t-shirt or a skein of yarn.

The following Saturday August 18, from 10:00am to 4:00pm, the UHC will host Off Loom Weaving with fibre artist Len de Graaf. Yarn, beads and other found materials are woven onto a sturdy tree branch to create a one-of-a-kind wall hanging or art object. All materials are supplied but participants are encouraged to bring interesting yarns, fibres and other materials from home to incorporate into their weaving.

Each workshop is $85 per person which includes all materials. Space is limited, reserve your spot early.
